Part of a series of maintenance commissions to undertake the complete refurbishment of 25 existing lecture theatres and teaching spaces within 7 occupied university buildings.
The refurbishment incorporated new seating, wall, floor and ceiling finishes, integrated lighting and sound systems, new M&E plant and distribution services, asbestos removal, security controls, updated DDA provision and improved acoustics. The refurbishment also included a successful Listed Building Planning Application to the Grade II Listed Sackville Street Building, to upgrade existing lecture theatre rooms to modern standards.
The purpose of the refurbishment programme was to address current shortfalls in lecture theatre performance and usability whilst addressing future needs and enhancing the student experience. The new design also created opportunities for the University to provide further conference and meeting venues in the summer months.
