Advanced Manufacturing Training Centre

Project Type:Higher Education

Client:MTC

Value:£15 million

Location:Ansty Park, Coventry

Building on the success of the existing MTC facility the Elite Academy is part of the campus expansion. Further landscape works formed part of this third phase expansion, realising the Masterplan vision for the business park. The scheme also further developed the infrastructure serving several large MTC facilities which provide services to support high value manufacturing, aerospace research and educational sectors.

This BREEAM “Excellent” building provides workshop and teaching space for 200 apprentices combined with conference and exhibition facilities. The restaurant caters for the whole of the MTC campus, and brings together commercial sector drive and entrepreneurship under a single roof.

The building faces onto a large landscaped lake designed as a focal point to the business park and the hub around which MTC activity and interaction takes place. A new footbridge connects the facilities across the lake. The lake and associated landscape structure and planting scheme contributes to achieving the BREEAM accreditation through a sustainable approach to the design, materials choices and plant mixes. A palette of high quality materials and furniture provides a cohesive infrastructure to the MTC campus setting.

The centre comprises:

  • Workshop space & design studios
  • Office & meeting rooms
  • 250 seat lecture theatre
  • Restaurant & kitchen
  • Large lake with marginal planting scheme
  • Viewing deck serving as external gathering space for staff
  • Glazed feature footbridge link
  • Extensive native and ornamental planting providing habitat for wildlife
  • Pedestrian access routes connecting the facilities
  • Car parking provision
