Design and delivery of the new studio technical production facility central to the strategic master plan as completed under an earlier commission.
Additional accommodation includes a visitor centre, exhibition space and audience handling facility, with retail and refreshment opportunities.
The studio building comprises facilities for live broadcast, including the largest TV studio in western Europe (at the time of completion), Multi-Purpose Audio Studio, and home for the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra. All supported by full post production facilities, artists’ dressing rooms, make-up rooms, green rooms, scenery and equipment stores.
A key factor in the design, and a pre-requisite for the BBC was for the public to have visual connectivity with the studios, and subsequently to facilitate studio tours.
The building also includes two towers offering over 18,000m2 of spec office accommodation and a 218 bed 4 star hotel.
