Biodata Innovation Centre

Project Type: Science & Research

Client: Wellcome Trust

Value: £13.5 million

Location: Hinxton, Cambridge

The scheme provides a shared landscape between the Biodata Innovation Centre and the Ogilvie Building. These new buildings provide additional laboratory and research facilities on the Wellcome Trust Campus. The landscape connects these new facilities and links them with the wider existing mature site.

The landscape layout and materials reference the established campus surroundings whilst creating a distinctive and high quality setting to the new buildings.

The rural location and sensitive landscape character is protected by filtering distant views with screen vegetation. The setting to the buildings is enhanced with a visually striking planting scheme incorporating a vertical green wall.

The centre comprises:

  • Hard landscaped entrance plaza built over an understorey car park
  • Natural stone hard landscape scheme
  • Extensive ornamental planting scheme featuring swathes of herbaceous plants.
  • Feature greenwall
  • Native screen planting
  • Surface car park and access
